SUMMARY:Sew Powerful Sew-a-thon!!
DESCRIPTION:Poor young women in Zambia have no access feminine hygiene products\, and therefore stay home from school during their menstrual periods\, which negatively affects their education. Education is key to their future\, but in Zambia\, if you don’t pass the 7th grade exams\, you are not allowed to go on to high school. Sew Powerful is an organization that empowers communities to sew their own feminine products and teaches girls how to continue their education all month. When girls enter the program\, they are given a crossbody bag with sanitary napkins\, soap and a washcloth. We are going to get together and sew the crossbody bags that they will be given. \nWe hope to make 50 bags during our sew-a-thon\, and we are going to need sewers and assistants to volunteer for 2-hour shifts. If you have sewing experience\, you can sew up pre-cut kits\, if you are not a sewer\, we can still use your help. We need assistants to iron\, pin\, write notes to go in the bags etc. \nIf you are not available that day\, you are welcome to sew some bags on your own using the pattern on the Sew Powerful website\, and bring them to Sew. \nWe are going to have a lot of fun\, there will be sewing\, snacks and door prizes. \nWe are going to need sewers and assistants for these shifts: \n9:00-11:00\n11:00-1:00\n1:00-3:00\n3:00-5:00 \nYou can learn more about Sew Powerful at Sewpowerful.org
